Year 5 astronauts visit the National Space Centre
At the end of February, our brave young Year 5 astronauts hopped aboard the Riverside Rocket and blasted off to the National Space Centre in Leicester! This annual event is a vital part of this term’s science unit – Earth and Space – where pupils learn about the solar system, the rotation of the Earth and the different phases of the moon.
Throughout the day, the children engaged in a wide variety of activities that allowed them to delve deeper into the wonders of space. Awestruck – and with many audible gasps – they enjoyed a captivating 30-minute show in the Planetarium and took part in a self-led tour around the different exhibits in the centre, where they explored interactive displays and fascinating artefacts. A particular highlight was seeing Saturn in a bath, which sparked both curiosity and laughter!
The trip was an enriching experience, supporting the children’s learning and giving them the opportunity to see the curriculum in action. Their behaviour was impeccable, and the budding young space explorers were a credit to themselves and the school.
