Getting involved in school life at Riverside

At Riverside Primary School we value the contributions made by parents. Parental involvement in children’s education from an early age has a significant effect on educational achievement, and continues to do so in adolescence and adulthood.

At the start of the year all parents are invited to a ‘Welcome to…. Evening’, which is a parent induction meeting. Here the class teachers will go through important information relating to your child’s new class. This will include information relating to the 6R’s, e-safety, general routines, expectations and what your child will be covering over the year. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have relating to your child’s new class. Dates for these will be published at the beginning of each new school year.

Before starting in Foundation Stage, parents also have an opportunity to attend a meeting in the summer term before their child starts school to help parents and children prepare for school life.

At Riverside we hold ‘Parent Forums’ where parents have the opportunity to meet other parents and have focused discussions relating to improving our school. Parents also have the opportunity to attend two parents evenings each academic year where they can look at their child’s books and talk to their child’s class teacher.

A calendar is created each year highlighting the events that will take place at school. Key dates to watch out for are advertised in our Riverside Newsletters.
